Housing Crisis Take a Toll on Homeowners Mental Health

Florida's foreclosures seem to always be on the rise with no end in sight but the state was hit with some good news this week. Arizona has surpassed Florida and now holds fourth place in the nations foreclosure crisis. Florida currently has over 35,264 properties in some state of foreclosure and that number increases daily. Approximately one out of every 242 homes in Florida are in foreclosure.

The number of filings in the Louisville, Kentuky area have dropped 48 percent last month compared to the previous year. There were 288 filings in Louisville in April, one for every 1,874 households which is much lower than national average. Kentucky has the 43rd lowest rate of foreclosure filings in April.

The U.S. foreclosure crisis is taking a toll on homeowners psychological health. Rising fears among homeowners about keeping up with their mortgages are creating a range of emotional problem, mental-health specialists say. These include, anxiety disorders, depression, addictive behaviors and in a few cases suicide.
