Jeremy Shapiro "It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable." - Moliere

Did you ever notice how easy it is to break a promise or a commitment when you only make it to yourself? You know, like getting to the gym in the morning when you didn't get enough sleep, not eating that second dessert after a long day, or not picking up the phone to raise money because you just don't feel like it?

Strangely, though, once we are made accountable, to a spouse, to a family, to a friend - or even a stranger - we're far more likely to follow through on our commitments.

Today, at one of my Mastermind meetings, a fellow business owner shared a great resource with me that I wanted to pass onto you.
200905stickk.gifStrongman Logan Christopher of LegendaryStrength.com told me about a website called stickK.com which allows you to make commitments and be held accountable.

StickK was started a few years ago at Yale University when Economics Professor Dean Karlan had the idea of creating an online "Commitment Store".

The idea is that you create a commitment, set the stakes (what happens if you don't achieve your goal), get a referee and then add friends for support.

So, for example, if you wanted to make 10 calls to sellers each day to help you in picking up your next investment property, you could:

  1. Set your goal to "Make 10 calls a day to sellers"
  2. Set the stakes to "Give $50.00 to a charity each time I don't do it"
  3. Set your referee to a friend who can verify if you made your calls or not
  4. Get some friends and fellow investors to cheer you on
Now, each day, you file how many calls you made to sellers. Your referee validates your calls, and if you fail to file or miss your goal, at the end of your commitment period, StickK bills your credit card and makes the donation.

The bottom line here is that if you're serious about your goal and are looking to be held accountable, put your money where your mouth is and check out stickK.com.
